Hartford Gas Line Struck by Construction Crew
A natural gas line was struck by a construction crew in Hartford on Wednesday morning, prompting evacuations and road closures.
The incident occurred at around 7:45 a.m. near Grand Avenue on Branch Street when firefighters arrived to find a mini excavator on the sidewalk and pressurized gas escaping from the damaged underground pipeline.
WE Energies crews shut off the 2-inch gas supply line shortly after, and emergency responders used combustible gas meters to check nearby homes before issuing an all-clear.
No injuries were reported in the incident, but several homes on Grand Avenue and East Rogers Street were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Residents were allowed to return to their homes around 9 a.m.
