Hawkish Fed Comments Send Silver Prices Plummeting
Silver (XAGUSD) prices took a hit on September 1, falling by 2.40% to $64.903 as investors recalibrated their expectations following hawkish comments from Federal Reserve leaders at the Jackson Hole symposium.
The sharp repricing in interest rate futures led to higher U.S. Treasury yields, which increased the real cost of capital and negatively impacted silver's relative holding value due to its lack of interest income.
The recent escalation in energy prices also contributed to global inflation concerns, further firming the U.S. dollar and reducing international purchasing power for commodities like silver.
