HD Hyundai E&F Launches LNG Cogeneration Plant in South Chungcheong Province
HD Hyundai E&F has marked a significant milestone in South Korea's energy landscape with the opening of its LNG cogeneration plant in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province. The facility, which began commercial operations in late July, is expected to supply both electricity and heat to companies operating in the Daesan petrochemical complex.
The project cost approximately 435 billion won ($303 million) and took about three years to complete, with construction starting in March 2024. The plant utilizes a high-efficiency combined-cycle system fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG), allowing it to generate 290 megawatts of electricity and 321 tons of heat per hour.
According to HD Hyundai E&F, the new facility will provide stable and competitively priced energy to industrial customers in the region. Song Myung-jun, president of HD Hyundai Oilbank, emphasized that the completion of the plant would strengthen energy infrastructure at the Daesan petrochemical complex and contribute to improved competitiveness among companies operating there.
