HD Hyundai Unveils Next-Generation LNG Carrier Technologies at Gastech 2026
HD Hyundai will showcase its latest eco-friendly vessel technologies at Gastech 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. The company's affiliates, including HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, will participate in the event from September 14-17.
The next-generation liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier features forward accommodation and wind-assisted propulsion systems, designed to improve operational efficiency while reducing environmental impact. The vessel is set to receive design approval from Lloyd's Register (LR), a classification society that certifies the safety and quality of ships.
HD Hyundai will also unveil a 35,000-cubic-meter liquefied carbon dioxide carrier and a hybrid electric propulsion system with a capacity of 185,000 cubic meters. An artificial intelligence (AI) solution designed to optimize LNG carrier engine operation will receive Approval in Principle (AiP) from classification societies.
The company is jointly developing digital twin technology with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and Siemens to assess the safety of ammonia-fueled vessels. According to an HD Hyundai official, the company aims to develop vessel technologies that can improve operational efficiency while meeting environmental regulations.
