Hindustan Copper Sees Strong Demand for Offer for Sale, Expands Capacity
Hindustan Copper, India's only vertically integrated copper producer, has completed its Offer for Sale (OFS) with the retail portion subscribed more than seven times. The company, which carries out the entire value chain from copper ore mining and beneficiation to smelting, refining, and production of refined copper products, has given solid returns of 133% over the last three years.
India's per capita copper consumption is low at 0.6 kg compared to the world average of 3.2 kg. With the global shift towards electrification, copper demand is expected to rise as it benefits from rising investments in renewable energy, power transmission, electric vehicles, batteries, electronics, and data centers.
Hindustan Copper plans to invest Rs.7189 crore over five years to expand domestic mining operations and processing infrastructure. The company aims to increase total copper ore production capacity from 4.21 MTPA to 12.20 MTPA by FY30/31.
