Hormuz Agreement Uncertainty Drives Global Oil Price Surge
Global oil prices rose sharply at the end of the week's trading session due to continued concerns over regional energy supplies. Despite reports of progress in talks between Tehran and Muscat concerning maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, markets remained cautious. The complexities of outstanding issues are reflected in this stance.
The price of Brent crude climbed 1.29 percent to reach $83.55 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose 1.15 percent to $78.18 per barrel. Oman crude closed 1.30 percent higher at $79.37 per barrel.
Rising oil prices in the Middle East weren't limited to global crude oils; they extended to regional indices as well. The price of Iranian Light crude jumped 2.16 percent, while Iranian Heavy crude rose 2.22 percent and Forouzan crude climbed 2.21 percent. The Dubai benchmark basket of crudes saw notable gains of 1.8 percent.
