Hormuz Crisis Deepens as Iranian Diplomats Meet with Qataris

A high-stakes meeting between Iranian and Qatari diplomats has highlighted the escalating crisis over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy conduit.

The talks come as Washington's naval blockade chokes off oil imports to Iran, exacerbating a domestic fuel shortage.

Iranian state television reported that Qatar's Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran on August 27, but details of the discussion were not disclosed.

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Al Thani emphasized the need for neighboring states to respect sovereignty and freedom of navigation, while pursuing dialogue. He also discussed de-escalation efforts with Araghchi.
