Hormuz Deal Weighs on Oil Prices Amid OPEC Production Increase
Oil prices fell on Wednesday after reports emerged that the US and Iran are nearing a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The AP reported that Iranian and Omani negotiators have finalized a draft deal to reopen the waterway, with final approval pending from Iran's supreme leader.
The agreement would allow for no tolls or fees on vessels transiting the area, with inbound traffic using a northern lane and outbound traffic using a southern one. This development has contributed to lower crude oil prices, which have been under pressure due to growing optimism about the deal.
In addition to the Strait of Hormuz reopening, Saudi Aramco stated that Houthi threats have yet to affect Saudi crude exports through the Red Sea, despite Houthi military spokesperson claims of escalating attacks on Saudi oil tankers.
