Hormuz Disruptions Cloud Brent Outlook Amid Conflicting Transit Data
The outlook for Brent crude prices remains uncertain due to conflicting transit data and concerns over flows through the Strait of Hormuz. According to Commerzbank's Commodity Research team, led by Barbara Lambrecht, upcoming reports from the EIA, IEA, and OPEC will provide clarity on supply and demand.
The situation in the Strait of Hormuz is unclear, with conflicting reports about oil flows each day. Energy agencies' market reports and China's trade balance figures next week are expected to shed some light on the matter.
A month ago, the EIA lowered its expectations for shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, projecting larger production losses in the Gulf region than those recorded in July. However, given the growing number of 'workarounds' such as ship-to-ship transfers, the EIA may now take a more optimistic view.
The bank highlights that a continued recovery in China's crude imports would support higher flows and likely cap Brent prices. The development of OECD inventories and the outlook for global oil demand will also be closely watched.
