Hormuz Shipping Slows Amid Iran-US Tensions

Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has slowed down after Iran threatened to retaliate against US attacks. On Monday, only seven commodity vessels sailed through the strait, compared to eight on the previous day.

The warning from Iran came after it accused the US of attacking its energy infrastructure in the Gulf. The threat led Goldman Sachs to raise its forecasts for Brent and West Texas Intermediate crude oil prices for December 2026 and 2027.

However, traffic through another major waterway, Bab el-Mandeb strait, increased with 29 commodity vessels passing through on Monday, up from 17 on the previous day. Some vessels may be sailing through the two straits with their transponders off, which is not considered in the counts.
