Hormuz Strait Sees Record Low Vessel Transit Amid Rising Tensions

The Strait of Hormuz has seen its lowest daily tally of commodity vessels in three months, according to shipping data from Kpler. Just two tankers transited the key energy chokepoint on Monday, with both entering the Gulf.

This figure is well below the 10-day average of 14 vessels, and down from Sunday's tally of seven vessels of all types. However, some ships may have switched off navigation transponders during transit.

Provisional data from Vortexa shows that Monday oil transits at 5 million barrels per day, with a seven-day moving average of around 6-7 million bpd by August 23. Iran has blacklisted 45 tankers for violating its rules on passage through the strait.
