Hormuz Tanker Hit by Missile in Latest Gulf Tensions
A Qatari-flagged tanker carrying liquefied natural gas through the Strait of Hormuz was reportedly struck by a missile on Saturday, leaving it inoperable off the Omani coast.
The Gaslog Shanghai LNG ship had picked up an LNG shipment around July 27 and last sent a signal near the western entrance of Hormuz on Friday. The attack damaged its engine room, according to security intelligence sources cited by Bloomberg.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations also alerted that a vessel was struck in the same location overnight Saturday, though it did not identify the ship.
This incident comes just hours after President Trump directed more strikes on Iran that were expected to launch as soon as this weekend. The US embassies in the region began urging Americans to leave the Middle East.
