Hormuz Tensions Spark Global Oil Price Spike Amid Middle East Volatility

Global oil prices have surged as tensions escalate between the US and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint in global energy logistics. The 60-day deadline for a fragile US-Iran memorandum of understanding has expired without a resolution, raising concerns about immediate supply disruptions.

The UAE has initiated emergency logistics to bypass the chokepoint, deploying shuttle tankers to physically move Iraqi oil exports around the Strait. However, this measure only temporarily cushions the market and fails to replace the massive volume of Saudi and Kuwaiti crude currently bottled up in the Gulf.

Nigeria is capitalizing on the volatility by clearing a $4.5 billion financing package for oil-backed investments and aggressively targeting $50 billion in deepwater offshore drilling investments, presenting West Africa as a secure alternative to the Persian Gulf.
