Hot Chili's Giant Chilean Copper Story Ignites Takeover Speculation
Hot Chili Limited (ASX:HCH) is once again drawing attention from copper watchers, and this time it's not just retail investors who are interested. The Perth-based developer has a completed pre-feasibility study for its Costa Fuego project in Chile, which outlines robust economics at current copper prices.
The project contains a multi-hundred-million-tonne resource and is one of the more advanced copper development stories on the ASX. Glencore, one of the world's largest commodity trading and mining companies, holds a strategic stake in Hot Chili and has an offtake arrangement over a portion of Costa Fuego's future copper production.
The takeover narrative around ASX:HCH is not new, but it rests on firmer foundations than most junior-mining speculation. The company remains firmly ASX-listed under the ticker HCH, with a secondary listing on Canada's TSX Venture Exchange, and its share register now blends retail enthusiasm with heavyweight institutional and strategic names.
The company has assembled the raw materials for a compelling copper story, but converting them into a built mine or a premium bid is the harder task that lies ahead. Hot Chili has consolidated the ground over more than a decade, and its pitch has always leaned on location as much as geology: the project sits near sea level, close to existing road, power and port infrastructure.
