Houthi Attack on Saudi Pipeline Cuts Oil Exports in Half

The attack on Saudi Arabia's east-west pipeline by Houthi forces has caused significant disruptions to oil exports. The pipeline, which carries up to 7 million barrels per day, was shut down as a precautionary measure following multiple attacks in the western part of the country.

According to an official statement from the Ministry of Energy, the East-West Pipeline was subjected to 'multiple' attacks on September 10, resulting in several injuries and damage to the pipeline. Emergency teams responded promptly to secure the pipeline and assess its safety.

The exact locations of the attacks are crucial, as the terrain is mountainous, making it difficult for oil to pass through if damaged on the wrong side. If multiple stations were destroyed, the oil could be cut off for weeks or months.

With this pipeline and US escorts, around 11-16 million barrels per day normally transit Hormuz, but this will now be cut in half due to the shutdown.
