Houthi Attack on Saudi Tanker Sends Oil Prices Soaring
Oil prices rebounded on Wednesday after Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi rebels said they attacked a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea, threatening to disrupt shipping traffic and oil flows in the Middle East.
The attack drove up Brent crude futures by $1.07, or 1.35%, to $80.43 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate futures rose 45 cents, or 0.59%, to $76.22.
The Houthi rebels claimed they had launched a missile attack on the Saudi oil tanker off the coast of Yanbu, a key port for Saudi crude oil exports.
Saudi officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
