Houthi Attack Slows Bab el-Mandeb Shipping Traffic
Shipping traffic through Bab el-Mandeb has slowed significantly after a Houthi attack on Saudi oil installations. According to data from Kpler, only eleven commodity vessels passed through the strait on Sunday, down from previous months.
The Houthis attacked sites belonging to Saudi state oil company Aramco in the cities of Jizan and Yanbu on Saturday. The group is trying to blockade Saudi exports as part of its conflict with the US and Iran.
The Red Sea has been disrupted since last week, and transit through the Strait of Hormuz also stayed low over the weekend. Seven vessels passed through the strait daily, mostly exiting the Gulf.
