Houthi Attacks Disrupt Oil Supplies, Send Prices Soaring
A recent escalation of violence in the Middle East has disrupted oil supplies and sent prices soaring. On September 8, 2026, Yemen's Tehran-backed Houthi rebels launched a broad operation into Saudi Arabia, targeting oil installations and airbases with drones and missiles.
The attacks struck the Jazan refinery and an oil distribution center in Abha, causing blazes at both sites. Saudi authorities reported that women and children were among the 73 people injured in the attack.
The Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the operation, which appears to be a major expansion of their six-month-old war against Saudi Arabia. The conflict has already had significant economic implications, with oil prices rising to their highest levels since July 23 and June 4.
