Houthi Attacks Ignite Oil Facility Fires, Wound Dozens in Saudi Arabia
The Houthi rebel group in Yemen launched a wave of attacks on Saudi Arabia, wounding over 70 people and igniting fires at oil facilities and utilities. The attack marked a major escalation in renewed fighting between the US-backed ally and the Iranian proxy group.
Major General Turki al-Malki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition, said the rebels targeted 'civilian and economic facilities' in cities including Abha, Jazan, Najran, and Khamis Mushait. He vowed retaliation after 73 people were wounded, including women and children.
The attacks hit major oil facilities, including a refinery in Jazan that is one of Saudi Arabia's largest, with operations suspended temporarily due to the fires. Brigadier General Yahya Saree, Houthi military spokesman, said they fired dozens of ballistic missiles and drones at oil and economic targets.
