Houthi Attacks in Yemen Leave Over 70 Injured
Saudi Arabia has condemned attacks by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels on civilian and economic targets, resulting in over 70 casualties. The Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen said the Houthis' 'senseless attacks' targeted areas in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran cities. According to Turki al-Maliki, spokesperson for the coalition, the attacks resulted in injuries to 73 civilians, including women and children.
The conflict between Yemen's Saudi-backed government and the Houthi rebels has intensified, with the government launching a counteroffensive to reclaim territory from the Houthis. The Saudi foreign ministry condemned the attacks, stating that the militia's actions are 'a hostile approach and criminal behavior' that threaten regional security and stability.
The Houthis have imposed a maritime embargo on Saudi Arabia, targeting eight Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea since July 22. This blockade has threatened Saudi oil exports and added to the pressure imposed by Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
