Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia Escalate Conflict in Region
A wave of Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia has left at least 73 people wounded and ignited fires at several oil facilities and utilities in the kingdom's southern region. The attacks, which took place early Tuesday morning, targeted civilian and economic facilities in cities such as Abha, Jazan, Najran, and Khamis Mushait.
The Saudi-led coalition, fighting against the Houthi rebels in Yemen, has vowed retaliation for the attacks, calling them a 'serious escalation' and a 'flagrant violation of the kingdom's sovereignty'. The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying they were in response to recent Saudi attacks on the rebels across Yemen.
The conflict between the Houthi rebels and the Saudi-led coalition has been escalating over the past few weeks, with the Houthis launching missile and drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities and tankers. The tension comes at a time when the region is already destabilized by nearly three years of wars and conflicts.
