Houthi Attacks on Saudi Energy Facilities Wound 73, Disrupt Operations

A series of attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels on Saudi energy facilities has left 73 people wounded and disrupted operations at several sites, according to Saudi authorities.

The attacks occurred in the southern cities of Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran, with fires breaking out at some of the facilities. The Saudi foreign ministry strongly condemned the attacks, describing them as a 'dangerous escalation'.

The Houthi military spokesperson had announced earlier that the group would launch a broad operation deep into Saudi territory in response to what they claimed was an escalation by Riyadh. The Saudi-led coalition has vowed to respond firmly to the latest outbreak of hostilities, saying it will take all necessary operational measures to deter the Houthis.

The attacks come as tensions mount between the United States and Iran over the wider Middle East conflict, which has sent oil prices soaring. Brent crude futures rose $1 to $98 per barrel after the Saudi energy ministry statement, while US crude futures rose over $2 to $93.65 per barrel.
