Houthi Attacks on Yemen Port and Saudi Oil Facility Reignite Middle East Tensions
The Houthi rebels in Yemen have launched attacks on a government-held port and an oil facility in neighboring Saudi Arabia, deepening fears over threats to strategic Middle East shipping routes and potentially reigniting civil war. The port of Mokha was severely damaged, with at least seven people killed and 15 civilians injured.
The Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, claimed the attack targeted military forces and warehouses at the port. The Saudi Energy Ministry reported a fire at an Aramco refinery facility in Jazan, but said there were no casualties.
Meanwhile, Iran and Oman are working on a temporary deal to manage the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for global oil and gas supplies. Ships would transit without paying fees or tolls during the interim period, according to sources familiar with the talks.
