Houthi Attacks Reignite Fears of Civil War in Yemen as Pentagon Seeks to Boost Weapons Production
The Houthi rebels in Yemen have launched a series of attacks on strategic targets in the Middle East, including an oil facility in Saudi Arabia and a government-held port on the Red Sea coast. The attack on the Aramco refinery in Jazan, Saudi Arabia was confirmed by the Saudi Energy Ministry, but no casualties were reported.
The Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, claimed that they targeted an Aramco refinery with a drone in response to Saudi drones breaching Yemen's airspace over Hajjah and Saada provinces. The attack on the port of Mokha, which is a main port under Yemen's internationally recognized government, resulted in at least seven deaths and 15 injuries.
The Pentagon has announced plans to boost weapons production in response to concerns about shortages, particularly following the war with Iran that used up more of the US military's advanced missile interceptors. The shortage has caused concern among allies like Ukraine and Taiwan who seek more US military support.
