Houthi Drone Attack Forces Jizan Refinery to Shut Down for Entire Month
The Houthi forces in Yemen have launched another drone attack on Saudi Aramco's Jizan Refinery, forcing it to shut down for the entire month of August. The refinery has a daily crude oil processing capacity of 400,000 barrels and is an important refining capacity in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
The attack was carried out as a targeted response by the Houthi forces to Saudi Arabia's recent cross-border actions, according to public information. The Saudi Ministry of Energy confirmed that a fire broke out at a facility in the Jizan Refinery on August 9, but it was promptly extinguished by on-site firefighting forces.
IIR Energy reported that the drone attack did not cause substantial damage to the refinery's core process equipment, and the production line hardware remains intact. However, the refinery's decision to shut down for the entire month is due to a comprehensive consideration of geopolitical security risk prevention and control, equipment re-inspection and troubleshooting, and avoiding further attacks.
