Houthi Drone Attack Hits Saudi Aramco's Jazan Refinery Amid Regional Tensions
Saudi Aramco's Jazan refinery in southwestern Saudi Arabia was targeted by Yemen's Houthi group, allied with Iran, on Sunday (9/8) in a drone attack. The incident occurred just two days after Saudi Arabia signed a defense pact with Turkey and Pakistan to strengthen collective deterrence against aggression.
The alliance stipulates that an armed attack against one of the three countries will be considered an attack against all members. However, it is unclear whether or how Pakistan and Turkey will be involved in Saudi Arabia's response to the latest Houthi attack.
The Houthis claimed to have used drones to attack the refinery, which has a processing capacity of approximately 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day. A fire broke out at the facility but was later extinguished without any injuries reported.
