Houthi Drone Strike Escalates Yemen Conflict as Iran Tightens Conditions for US Talks
The conflict in Yemen escalated on Sunday as the Houthi group claimed responsibility for a drone strike on a Saudi Aramco facility in Jazan. The attack, which came after Saudi drones breached Yemen's airspace over Hajjah and Saada provinces, was part of a series of missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and its shipping in the Red Sea.
The Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, said the group targeted an Aramco refinery with a drone. The Saudi Energy Ministry reported a fire at the facility, but no casualties were reported. This is not the first time the Houthis have attacked Saudi oil sites; previous strikes have included missile and drone attacks.
The tensions in the region are further complicated by Iran's stance on negotiations with the US. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that 'negotiations cannot resume until the violations of the memorandum of understanding have ended and the United States has remedied the provisions of the memorandum that it violated.'
