Houthi Drone Strikes Hit Key Saudi Oil Facilities Amid Rising Regional Tensions
The Houthi forces in Yemen claimed to have launched drone strikes on several Saudi oil facilities along the pipeline route from Eastern Province to Yanbu, a key port. The attacks were allegedly carried out in response to what they described as 'violations of Yemeni airspace by Saudi drones.'
Yahya Saree, spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, made the announcement on July 27, 2026.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense countered that its air defense systems had intercepted and destroyed several attacking drones. Riyadh stated that the drones originated from Iraqi airspace and were launched by 'Iran-backed armed groups.'
Saudi officials emphasized their right to self-defense under international law, reserving the right to respond at an appropriate time and place.
