Houthi Forces Target Aramco Facility in Jazan Amid Breakdown of Truce
The Houthi forces in Yemen have claimed responsibility for launching a drone strike on an Aramco facility in Jazan, Saudi Arabia. The attack was framed as retaliation for Saudi drone activities over Yemen's Saada and Hajjah governorates.
Saudi authorities acknowledged a fire at the Jazan facility but said it was quickly extinguished with no injuries reported. The refinery processes approximately 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day, making it a strategically significant target.
The attack is part of a series of Houthi operations during July and August 2026, coinciding with the breakdown of a UN-brokered truce that had reduced major combat operations since 2022. The Houthis have long received military support from Tehran, including drone and missile technology.
The attack on the Abqaiq processing facility and the Khurais oil field in September 2019 temporarily knocked out roughly half of Saudi Arabia's oil output. Any sustained disruption to the Jazan refinery would ripple through global energy markets.
