Houthi Strikes on Saudi Oil Tankers Disrupt Global Supplies
The conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi rebels has escalated in the Red Sea, with tanker ships carrying oil from Saudi Arabia being targeted by the Houthis.
Tankers are now avoiding the Red Sea and instead sailing to Asia through the Suez Canal, adding around 30 days to their journey. The Danish-flagged tanker Torm Innovation is one example of a ship taking this route, with its spokesperson citing crew safety as the primary concern.
The Houthis' actions have been supported by Iran, which has flown military commanders and equipment, including gold, to the region. The Strait of Hormuz, already closed due to clashes between the US and Iran, is now at risk of being further disrupted.
