Houthis Advance in Yemen, Fueling Oil Price Concerns

The conflict in Yemen has escalated as government forces launched attacks against Iran-backed Houthi rebels along the Red Sea. The Houthis, who are supported by Iran, have been making gains in recent weeks, capturing key cities and infrastructure.

According to reports, more than 500 government fighters were killed on the west coast over the past four weeks, while over 1,000 Houthi rebels were killed in Hodeida and Taiz provinces. The Yemeni government has vowed to send more forces to the Red Sea coast and fight back against the Houthis.

The escalation of the conflict adds pressure on global oil supplies and prices, which could give Iran leverage in its war with the United States. The UN estimates that over 80,000 people have been displaced by the fighting since September, with many fleeing to neighboring Djibouti.
