Houthis Attack Aramco Facility Amid Ongoing Tensions with Iran
The Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed responsibility for an attack on an oil facility at Aramco in southwestern Saudi Arabia, saying it was in response to Saudi drones breaching Yemen's airspace. The attack occurred on Sunday and targeted an Aramco refinery in the city of Jazan, with a fire reported but no casualties.
The Saudi Energy Ministry confirmed the incident but did not provide details on the cause of the fire. This is the latest in a series of missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and its shipping in the Red Sea. The Yemeni government also reported that the Houthis attacked a crucial port on the Red Sea, firing missiles and drones at the Mocha port.
Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said that negotiations with the US cannot resume until conditions are met, including an end to 'violations of the memorandum of understanding' by the US. He also mentioned ongoing talks with Oman about new maritime routes through the Strait of Hormuz but emphasized that this does not mean the strait will reopen.
