Houthis Attack Aramco Facility Amid Tensions Over Red Sea Port
The Yemeni Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for an attack on an Aramco oil facility in southwestern Saudi Arabia. The attack, which occurred on Sunday, targeted an Aramco refinery in the city of Jazan and was reportedly in response to Saudi drones breaching Yemen's airspace.
The Houthis also attacked a crucial port on the Red Sea, Mocha port, firing missiles and drones at military enforcement and warehouses in the area. The attack has escalated tensions in the region and threatens to reignite Yemen's civil war, which was largely stopped by a 2022 truce.
The Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway for global oil supplies, remains closed due to ongoing negotiations between Iran and Oman. According to sources, a temporary deal is being finalized that would reopen the strait with ships entering through a route close to Iran and exiting through a route close to Oman.
