Houthis Attack Aramco Facility as Iran Demands Reopening of Strait

The conflict in Yemen escalated as the Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for an attack on an Aramco oil facility in southwestern Saudi Arabia. The assault was in response to what they said were incursions by Saudi drones into Yemen's airspace.

The Saudi Energy Ministry reported a fire at one of the facilities without casualties, and stated that it had been extinguished. The Houthi attack is part of a series of missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia and its shipping in the Red Sea.

In related news, Iran has made new demands regarding the restart of negotiations with the US and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that 'negotiations cannot resume until the violations of the memorandum of understanding have ended and the United States has remedied the provisions of the memorandum that it violated.'

The Pentagon is pushing to accelerate production of weapons, citing a need for speedier delivery due to depleted stockpiles. A potential deal between Iran and Oman would see ships entering the Strait of Hormuz through a route close to Iran and exiting through a route close to Oman.
