Houthis Attack Saudi Oil Refinery Amid Defence Pact With Turkey and Pakistan
The Iran-aligned Houthi group has attacked Saudi Arabia's Jazan oil refinery in southwestern Saudi Arabia, citing a Saudi siege on them. The attack comes two days after Riyadh signed a defence pact with Turkey and Pakistan in response to growing regional instability from the US-Israeli war on Iran.
The Houthis used a drone to target the refinery, which processes 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day. A fire broke out at the refinery, but it was later extinguished with no injuries reported. The Saudi energy ministry stated that authorities were dealing with the incident without giving a cause for the fire.
The Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree posted on X that they had struck Aramco 2222.SE sites before in Jazan and also hit Yanbu on the Red Sea. The Houthis declared a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea last month, citing what they said was a Saudi siege on them, an allegation Riyadh denies.
