Houthis Attack Saudi Oil Tanker in Red Sea Amid Escalating Conflict

Houthi rebels in Yemen have claimed responsibility for attacking a Saudi oil tanker called the Wafa in the Red Sea. The attack, which occurred off the coast of the Saudi port city of Yanbu, is part of a recent escalation between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia that has raised concerns about renewed conflict in Yemen's civil war.

The Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have been targeting Saudi shipping in the region, including closing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait to Saudi-linked vessels in July. This move put additional pressure on international shipping as the Red Sea became a key alternative route for Saudi oil exports during the conflict.

On Tuesday, an Indian-flagged commercial ship sank in the Red Sea after being struck by an explosive-laden boat, with no immediate claim of responsibility made. The attack is just one of several incidents in the region that have raised concerns about the safety of shipping in the area.
