The Houthi movement in Yemen has imposed a shipping ban on Saudi vessels through the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a strategic waterway that connects the Red Sea to the Suez Canal. The group claims that 16 Saudi vessels were denied passage between Monday and Sunday.

In remarks to Al-Mayadeen Television, Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, a member of the Houthi Political Bureau, stated that three Saudi oil tankers came under attack during the previous 48 hours.

The Bab al-Mandab Strait is a critical shipping route, accounting for around 15% of global maritime trade. Its narrowest point is approximately 29 km (18 miles) wide.
