Houthis Claim Attack on Saudi Tanker in Red Sea
The Houthi group in Yemen has claimed responsibility for an attack on a Saudi Arabian tanker, NCC Wafa, in the Red Sea. The tanker, which is controlled by Bahri, was reportedly struck while transiting the region.
According to Yahya Saree, a spokesperson for the Houthi group, 'we successfully targeted the Saudi oil tanker' with a number of ballistic missiles. However, Lloyd's List has not been able to independently verify whether the tanker was struck by projectiles or how much damage it sustained.
This is the latest escalation in the group's campaign against commercial shipping, which resumed last month after an extended quiet period. The Houthi group had imposed a blockade on Saudi ports and quickly followed through on its threat to target vessels that breached it, striking the Saudi Arabia-flagged Encelia just days later.
