Houthis Claim Drone Strike Hits Najran Airport Radar

Najran Airport in Saudi Arabia suspended operations indefinitely after Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis claimed to have attacked the site using a drone.

The attack, which targeted the airport's main radar, affected air traffic and left the status of flights for the next few days unknown, according to the airport's website.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the rebels successfully targeted a sensitive target belonging to Saudi Arabia at Najran Airport.

The attack is part of an ongoing escalation in fighting between Riyadh and the Houthis, which has seen several attacks on oil tankers and infrastructure. The Houthi's declared maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia, the world's largest exporter of crude, last month has also led to retaliatory strikes from Saudi Arabia.

The small airport near the Yemeni border handles a few flights per day and is located in an area where fighting between Saudi-led forces and the Houthis erupted last month.
