Houthis Escalate Attacks Against Saudi Arabia Amid Regional Tensions
The conflict in Yemen has escalated into its second day as Houthi forces launched ballistic missiles and drones towards Saudi Arabia's southern cities of Abha, Khamis Mushait, and Jazan on Wednesday. The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen stated that the Houthis are continuing to target Saudi Arabia's national assets and infrastructure.
Saudi Arabia's Civil Defence lifted alerts in Khamis Mushait and Abha after Houthi attacks wounded 73 people and set oil installations ablaze a day earlier. Coalition spokesperson Turki al-Malki said that the coalition would respond to the attacks 'responsibly' to protect Saudi Arabia's sovereignty, national assets, and civilians.
The Houthis have expanded their operations against Saudi Arabia amid a sharp escalation in the regional conflict. The Iran-backed group has been at odds with Saudi Arabia for years, with the two nations backing opposing sides in Yemen's civil war.
