Houthis Fire Ballistic Missiles at Saudi Oil Tanker in Red Sea

Yemen's Houthi rebels have reportedly fired ballistic missiles at a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea, according to their military spokesperson Yahya Saree. The Houthis claim that the vessel breached a maritime blockade and ignored warnings before being targeted.

The incident occurred on July 28, 2026, when the master of the tanker reported hearing an explosion while transiting through the southern Red Sea. Fortunately, no environmental damage or injuries have been reported, with the crew and vessel safe.

The Houthis announced a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia on the Red Sea on July 20 as a response to what they called a Saudi siege of Yemen. Riyadh has denied these allegations, with the Saudi-led coalition carrying out strikes against Houthi military bases in the Hodeidah governorate of Yemen.
