Houthi fighters clashed with Yemeni government forces in the country's southwest, as the Iran-backed group launched a broad offensive along front lines on the western Red Sea coast.

The Houthis attempted to advance and cut the road linking Taiz to al-Makha (Mocha), aiming to sever Taiz city from the coast, according to Al Jazeera correspondent Yousef Mawry.

This move would give the Houthis a foothold in the Red Sea, a key maritime route for oil exports and other global trade.
