Houthis Launch Drone Attack on Saudi Oil Facility Amid Escalating Regional Tensions
The Iran-backed Houthis have launched an attack on an oil facility in southwestern Saudi Arabia, sparking fresh tensions in the region. The attack, which targeted an Aramco refinery in the city of Jazan, was carried out using a drone and is seen as a response to recent breaches of Yemen's airspace by Saudi drones.
According to Yahya Saree, a military spokesperson for the Houthis, the attack was aimed at disrupting oil production and shipments through the Red Sea. The Saudi Energy Ministry confirmed that a fire broke out at an Aramco facility without causing any casualties, but did not specify the cause of the blaze.
The escalation in tensions between Iran-backed forces and Saudi Arabia threatens to reignite Yemen's civil war, which had largely subsided after a 2022 truce. The conflict has already taken a heavy toll on the impoverished Arab country, leaving millions displaced or in need of humanitarian aid.
