Houthis Launch Drone Strikes on Saudi Oil Infrastructure
Yemen's Houthi rebels have claimed to have carried out drone strikes on Saudi Arabia's crude oil infrastructure, targeting facilities linked to the transportation of oil from eastern Saudi Arabia to the Red Sea city of Yanbu. The operation was in response to what the Houthis called the 'Saudi enemy's drone incursions into Yemeni airspace.'
The Houthi military spokesperson, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said that several drones had targeted 'sensitive targets and points related to the supply and transport of crude oil' from eastern Saudi Arabia. He cited the downing of a Saudi Bayraktar Akinci drone over Yemen's Al-Jawf Governorate as one of the reasons for the attack.
The Houthis have previously announced a maritime embargo against Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea, particularly on the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, accusing Riyadh of imposing restrictions on Yemen. They have warned of further military action if what they describe as aggression against Yemen continues.
