Houthis Open New Front in Yemen as Tribes Advance on Marib
Houthi-aligned tribes have launched a major mobilisation in eastern Yemen, advancing toward Marib, one of the country's most important oil-and-gas regions. The movement has been reported east of Sanaa, with long columns of armed pickups and fighters being transferred to surrounding positions. According to regional reports, Saudi-backed government forces are responding with artillery and airstrikes.
The Houthis have already seized key locations, including Khawkhah, Mokha, and strategic Mayun Island, potentially forcing government forces to divide their manpower between recovering the Red Sea coast and defending Yemen's energy heartland. Marib is a principal stronghold of the internationally recognised government, making it a crucial target for the Houthi advance.
