Houthis Strike Saudi Airbase as Yemen Conflict Escalates

Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis launched a new attack on Saudi Arabia on Monday, firing dozens of missiles and drones at a military airbase in Khamis Mushait. The attack targeted aircraft hangars, radar systems, runways, and ammunition depots, according to the Houthis.

The Houthis' action was in retaliation for Saudi airstrikes in Yemen, which have recently intensified. This latest attack comes after another on Friday, which Riyadh blamed on Iran-backed fighters in Iraq, knocking out the country's east-west pipeline. The pipeline allows Gulf oil exports to bypass the blockaded Strait of Hormuz.

The situation is further complicated by the Houthis' rapid advances in Yemen, capturing territory including Perim Island at the mouth of the Red Sea last week. The renewed conflict poses a challenge for President Donald Trump, who faces pressure from Gulf allies to help contain the Houthis but has sought to avoid opening a major new front.

Oman had been set to host talks between Iran and Gulf states on Monday, aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz. However, Oman announced that the meeting had been postponed, citing the escalating tensions in the region.
