Houthis Strike Saudi Arabia Amid Escalating Red Sea Tensions
The Houthis, an Iran-backed rebel group in Yemen, launched missiles and drones at Saudi Arabia on Saturday in response to airstrikes by Saudi forces on the Red Sea city of Hodeida.
The strikes targeted facilities in the cities of Yanbu and Jizan that belong to Aramco, the world's largest oil company. However, Saudi Arabia has not commented further on the matter.
The Houthis have threatened to close the Bab el-Mandeb Strait to Saudi-linked shipping, which could severely impact global trade. The strait connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and is a vital shipping chokepoint.
The rising tension in the region has sparked concerns about the safety of commercial vessels in the Red Sea. Last week, the Houthis targeted two Saudi oil tankers in the area.
