Houthis Strike Saudi Aramco Refinery in Jazan
Saudi Aramco has halted operations at its Jazan refinery after a Houthi attack damaged key infrastructure, affecting oil processing capacity. The refinery can process 400,000 barrels of oil per day and was attacked on July 27. According to Reuters, the damage is severe enough that it will take until August 15 for Aramco to complete repairs and begin restarting operations.
The attack targeted the refinery's integrated gasification combined-cycle complex and an oil storage area, causing significant disruption to Saudi Arabia's energy production capabilities. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree confirmed that the group had struck Saudi Aramco facilities in Jazan and Yanbu, escalating a regional conflict that has already impacted global energy supplies.
The attack comes as tensions between the Houthi rebels and Saudi forces remain high, with both sides trading blows in recent weeks. The Jazan refinery is one of several key facilities targeted by the Houthis, underscoring the severity of the conflict's impact on regional energy markets.
