Houthis Strike Saudi Oil Refinery Amid Escalating Tensions
Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels have targeted an oil refinery in southern Saudi Arabia, according to rebel media. The Aramco refinery in Jazan was hit by a number of drones on Tuesday, as the group ramps up attacks on the kingdom.
The Houthis claim they were responding to airspace violations over the governorates of Saada and Hajjah in Yemen. This latest attack comes after the group announced a maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia last month, which has led to a series of tit-for-tat attacks.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' official spokesman expressed concern about the reported strikes, warning that they risk further entangling Yemen in the wider regional confrontation. The Houthis have repeatedly targeted Saudi oil infrastructure and airports in recent months.
