Houthis Strike Saudi Oil Refinery, Killing At Least 11
The conflict in Yemen has escalated as the Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for an attack on a Saudi Arabia oil refinery, resulting in at least 11 deaths. The attack occurred after a breakdown of the UN-backed 2022 accord, which had maintained a fragile truce between the Houthis and the Saudi-backed government.
The Houthis' military spokesman Yahya Saree said they targeted 'Saudi enemy' troops and equipment with missiles and drones in response to drone incursions by Saudi Arabia into northwest Yemen. The attack on the Jazan oil facility operated by Aramco has sparked concerns about the security of Saudi oil infrastructure.
A medical source in Mokha, held by the Aden-based government, confirmed that three civilians and eight military personnel had been killed in the Houthi attacks. A further 32 individuals were wounded, six of them civilians, with all civilian casualties resulting from strikes on Mokha's port.
